A Wedding Filmmaker – A Must or Overrated?

Let’s be honest—weddings are expensive. So it’s natural for couples to ask: “Do we really need a wedding filmmaker?”

Some say it’s a luxury. Others call it essential. At Dasoni Films, we hear both sides all the time. Here’s the truth:

Photos freeze moments. Films bring them back to life.
Your vows. The tremble in your partner’s voice. Your parents' happy tears. Your best friend's speech that had everyone laughing. These aren’t just visuals—they’re emotions in motion.

A wedding film isn’t just a highlight reel—it’s a living memory. You hear the laughter, the music, the nerves in your voice as you say “I do.” You catch the way your partner looked at you when you weren’t watching. You feel the rhythm of the day, the quiet in-between moments, and the energy of your favorite people all around you. It’s not just what happened—it’s how it felt.

Even years down the road, a film has the power to transport you back to that exact moment. Not just the way it looked, but the way it sounded, moved, breathed. It’s a time capsule of your love, your people, your story.

And that’s why I love filming weddings.
I started out as a photo editor—spending hours perfecting images and learning how visual storytelling works. Over time, I was asked to help edit video too. That unexpected shift opened up a whole new world for me. One thing led to another, and I landed my first job as a wedding filmmaker. Since then, I’ve been lucky to capture so many beautiful moments for couples from all walks of life.

There’s something incredibly meaningful about preserving real emotions as they unfold—unscripted, raw, and honest. Every couple’s story is different, and being able to document that through film is not just work for me—it’s a privilege. I still get chills editing a couple’s vows or hearing the cheers during the first kiss. These aren’t just videos—they’re memories in motion, and I get to help tell them in the most authentic way.

But we get it—some couples prioritize photography or invest more in decor, music, or food. That’s totally valid. Still, years from now, what helps you relive your day, not just remember it?

Our honest take?
A wedding filmmaker isn’t for everyone. But if your day is filled with love, laughter, and moments you don’t want to fade with time—then it’s more than worth it. It’s not about having a trendy cinematic film. It’s about preserving the most meaningful day of your life in the way memory alone can’t.
